We started off with fall weather. Fresh, crisp, a little mix of cloud and a lot of sun. The path at first was very wide.
It was a T2, considered an easy hike. For the first couple of hours the trail was more like a pathway. After that was tight and rocky. Took us 4hr 45min up. Next day, 4hr 5min down.
The sign below says 3hrs but it’s lying…unless you run it maybe!
The trail does tighten up and the last 400 meters were steep. Doable, but definitely not in flip flops!
To make things interesting, the last hour or so the snow was falling sideways across our faces. Erasing the trail.
No sign of the hut either. Then we noticed a flag at the peak where we headed. Soooo relieved!!!
Thankfully we made it in time before the white-out. Safe and sound in the hut while the snow continued to fall. I did make good use of yoga breathing techniques to try to keep chilled out 😂. Definitely had a moment…
Enjoyed a sauna which was very welcoming seeing as though the hut was not heated except for the dining area.
We had a hearty soup and dinner around a long table in the company of the rest of the hikers. Had a couple glasses of wine as well as we all exchanged stories until lights out around 10:30.
Morning sunshine was a relief. The snow was light and sparkling. Took beautiful photos of the mountains surrounding the hut.
The descent was tricky, icy and not much fun. Tricky for the first hour or so. We used the “baby steps” theory to safely navigate and followed the footsteps of our companion hikers who set out before we did. No path visible, rocky and ice…we were relieve to follow in their footsteps!
It did feel at times that I had my guardian angels to guide me and kept my anxiety somewhat in check.
I can definitely check off the “action-adventure“ off my travel checklist!
Started out…
